REFUGIO DE VIDA SILVESTRE LA BARQUETA

This past week we loaded up the car with a picnic lunch and headed out to Refugio de Vida Silvestre La Barqueta, a scenic 1 hour drive from Boquete.  Playa Barqueta, which is part of this forested refuge, is beautiful and secluded.  Part of the adventure in getting there was a 7-mile off-road drive through the reserve to get to the beach.  While Greg tries to fish this area 1-2 times per week and Matt has joined him on occasion, this was Monica's and my first trip.  It was such a treat to go as a family and we all enjoyed a spectacular day!

A beautiful beach and palm trees greet us upon arrival.

This beach is endless, and one can walk for miles without seeing a soul.

Pools of water form along the shore, and we all enjoyed going for a swim to cool off a bit.

Monica and Matt head down the beach.

Trails of olive snails on the fresh wet sand - so fascinating!

Matt builds a sandcastle.

We took a long walk down the beach, collecting sand dollars along the way.

Monica and Matt are great companions!

Picturesque Coconut Palm

Matt and Greg love to collect ojos de buey (eyes of an ox).  During the past 6 months we have accumulated quite an assortment and have placed them (along with many shells) on our living room coffee table.

We were all grateful to have this fun, day-long adventure in such a beautiful setting!
