This past week we loaded up the car with a picnic lunch and headed out to Refugio de Vida Silvestre La Barqueta, a scenic 1 hour drive from Boquete. Playa Barqueta, which is part of this forested refuge, is beautiful and secluded. Part of the adventure in getting there was a 7-mile off-road drive through the reserve to get to the beach. While Greg tries to fish this area 1-2 times per week and Matt has joined him on occasion, this was Monica's and my first trip. It was such a treat to go as a family and we all enjoyed a spectacular day!

This beach is endless, and one can walk for miles without seeing a soul.

Pools of water form along the shore, and we all enjoyed going for a swim to cool off a bit. |

Monica and Matt head down the beach. |

Trails of olive snails on the fresh wet sand - so fascinating! |

We took a long walk down the beach, collecting sand dollars along the way. |

Matt and Greg love to collect ojos de buey (eyes of an ox). During the past 6 months we have accumulated quite an assortment and have placed them (along with many shells) on our living room coffee table.

Matt and Monica must feel like pioneers!
