Last weekend we decided to venture out and explore 2 new beaches. Greg found both Playa Hermosa and Playa Gavilla on Google Earth, and neither were listed in any of our Panama guidebooks. We packed a picnic lunch, threw our beach gear (towels, sunscreen, insect repellent...etc.) into the car and headed on out. After a two hour drive, we reached Playa Hermosa, a picturesque wide sandy beach. Following our brief exploration of Playa Hermosa, we continued along a bumpy dirt road, and 15 minutes later, arrived at beautiful Playa Gavilla were we spent the rest of the day. Playa Gavilla is a pretty crescent of white sand, backed by coconut palms and forest. Although we did not see them, we heard many howler monkeys in the trees. Looking out from Playa Gavilla, we could see the many islands in the Gulf of Chiriqui - just stunning! There were no waves, and the calm water was at least 85 degrees. We enjoyed swimming, relaxing in hammocks, and hunting for shells. As we headed back home to Boquete, we all agreed that it was a spectacular day and well worth the drive to get there.

Playa Hermosa - not a soul on the beach - just Greg, Monica & Matt heading out towards the ocean! |

We loved walking along Playa Gavilla looking for interesting shells, and found quite a nice collection to take home. |
