IT'S THE RAINY SEASON!

It is the rainy season here in Panama.  Panama has two seasons, and the winter season "invierno" lasts from April through December and corresponds with the rainy season.  The summer season "verano" lasts from January through March and is Panama's dry season. Yes, it has rained in some way, shape or form EVERY day since we arrived.  While we have had very few days of constant rain all day long, we have had intermittent showers at various times of the day.  It is not unusual to have sunshine, and then within minutes, experience some rain.  At times, there is a slight drizzle, almost like a mist.  Here in the Boquete area this is called a BAJAREQUE.  In contrast, we have had a few days of some incredible intense rain, with raindrops so big and coming down so quickly that we could barely see in front of us.  This rain is often accompanied by spectacular thunder and lightening!  Certainly, the timing of the rain and its intensity is quite unpredictable.

Of course, when we were planning this adventure and decided to arrive in Panama in early July we knew that we would be entering the rainy season.  I (Christina) had some trepidation about this, wondering how endless rain would impact our activities and time here.  I assumed that I would "tolerate" the rainy season but would definitely be eternally grateful that it was over once the dry season began.  Well, so far I'm pleasantly surprised and can honestly say that the rain has rarely had a negative impact on our day.  In fact, the rain, and the unpredictability of it, has been so much fun. Everything is so green, lush, and beautiful and even though it may rain a little bit each day, the weather remains warm.  We'll see how we feel about the rain in November after we've experienced a few more months of it...?  Interestingly, we have had several Panamanians tell us that we are not really experiencing a true rainy season right now because it has been so dry.  Locals have said, "It's like we don't even have a rainy season this year. It's hardly rained"!

This is a picture of our property after a good afternoon rain.  We love watching the clouds roll on in!
